In the 23rd minute Walter Blackwater shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Andy Renner saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Frederico Hendrickx got free with Andy Renner in the 26th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After some careless play in the FC Shakhtar Donetsk defense, Darren Blewitt kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Zhang Hong Xun. The FC Shakhtar Donetsk fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Zhang Hong Xun should have stopped the shot. After 37 played minutes FC Soldeu got a freekick which was hit by Shaun Grigg. Frederico Hendrickx received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Andy Renner came out and tried to block the shot, but Frederico Hendrickx slotted it home off the left post making it 2-1 in the 41st minute. In the 44th minute, Rolando Figueroa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. FC Shakhtar Donetsk's Edward Gilchrist was substituted for Walter Blackwater. Rolando Figueroa kicked well hit freekick during the 45th minute of the match. Luizinho Maldini took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 46th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Zhang Hong Xun. FC Shakhtar Donetsk's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Damien Blake could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 47th minute of the match, but Andy Renner made a huge save.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Frederico Hendrickx to make the kick off. Andy Renner showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Damien Blake, who was totally free with the ball in the 73rd minute. If Nestor Bâru had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Frederico Hendrickx in the 81st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Andy Renner prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The supporters of FC Shakhtar Donetsk booed when FC Soldeu was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luizinho Maldini didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 90th minute FC Shakhtar Donetsk were awarded a corner. Ulryk Prosowski went to the cornerflag to take it. A nice corner shot did that Ulryk Prosowski got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Andy Renner quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. 96 minutes into the game, Rolando Figueroa was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FC Shakhtar Donetsk's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Soldeu the free kick. After 96 played minutes FC Shakhtar Donetsk got a freekick which was hit by Rolando Figueroa.
