In the 11th minute there was a penalty for Club Atlético de Newell. Pastor Eufemio stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Syd Cullen. 0-1. Camilo Ferrara could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 15th minute of the match, but Gary Kelly made a huge save. If Spike Foley had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 22 minutes into the match, Coventry Wasps's goal looked a bit too open when Sebastian Percival came free, but Syd Cullen reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Camilo Ferrara's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Gary Kelly firmly grabbed it by the left post.
