A collision led to Floodish FC getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Vincent Gardner hit a great ball. Will Neil struck a weak shot in the 43rd minute. In the 47th minute Johnny Davie shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jesse McJames saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Paddy McNeish stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The Smiddy Celts fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Smiddy Celts's Sean McDrain was substituted for Graeme McRobie. Smiddy Celts's Tommy Gunn was substituted for Mbadiwe Mpenza. Floodish FC's Keith Scotland played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Graeme Gordon in the 72nd minute of play. Floodish FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Theo McNeish was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jesse McJames breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Paddy McNeish could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 83rd minute of the match, but Jesse McJames made a huge save.
