The audience thought a goal was coming when Rickard Erserman got free with Ariel Balboa in the 41st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Clemente Jaen kicked well hit freekick during the 43rd minute of the match. After having played for 44 minutes, Orfilio Orbañanos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. U. de Tarapacá's supporters crossed their fingers, but Orfilio Orbañanos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ariel Balboa made an important save on a dangerous shot by Rimas Ciparis in the 46th minute. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Eladio Araujo scored 1-2 in the 81st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Ariel Balboa, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 86th match minute, U. de Tarapacá was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mark Devia to maneuver through the defense. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Domingo Barcena in the 89th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Zhuo Xuan Yu saved Inter de Chillán from getting behind. In the 90th minute Florencio Jax shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ariel Balboa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. U. de Tarapacá's Ariel Balboa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Grzegorz Bierfass in the 93rd minute of play. 95 minutes into the match, Inter de Chillán's goal looked a bit too open when Domingo Barcena came free, but Zhuo Xuan Yu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ariel Balboa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Grzegorz Bierfass, who was totally free with the ball in the 96th minute. When Barni Irigoyen got free in front of the goal in the 98th minute he wasn't very focused and chipped the ball just over the goal. Ariel Balboa was delighted since he was out of position and the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. The U. de Tarapacá supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing U. de Tarapacá would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
